Undergraduate Admissions--Introduction

(4-Year Curriculum--JUPAS code: JS4601)

Starting from the intake of 2009, CUHK launched the Broad-based Admissions Scheme of the Life Sciences Programmes under the Faculty of Science. It aims to assist students in identifying their interests in the diverse fields of life sciences before selecting a major programme. The Life Sciences Programmes encompass six majors, and they are:

Biochemistry,
Biology, including Human Biology stream offered jointly with the Faculty of Medicine,
Cell and Molecular Biology,
Environmental Science,
Food and Nutritional Sciences, and
Molecular Biotechnology.

Each major offers unique education and training in their respective fields of life sciences, and prepares graduates for the versatile careers and postgraduate studies in biological, biomedical, health sciences as well as other related fields. If applicants wish to enroll in any one of the six majors, they are invited to apply our Life Sciences Programmes with the JUPAS Code of JS4601.

Why Life Sciences at CUHK?

We provide highly diversified and sophisticated education in life sciences, ranging from as tiny as a molecule to an organelle, to a cell, to a tissue, to a microorganism, to an organism, and to as large as a habitat. Indeed, we are the only university in town that offers Human Biology as well as Cell and Molecular Biology for study. The former study stream is jointly offered the Faculty of Medicine.
We have excellent reputation in education. In the most recent survey conducted by Hong Kong Economic Journal Monthly (信報財經月刊) in 2007, CUHK ranked top among the eight local University Grants Committee-funded universities. The six major criteria included the percentage of PhD holders for academic staff, JUPAS admission results, teaching qualities, financial resources, quality of graduates, and research performance.
We are commended and affirmed by the Quality Assurance Council of the University Grants Committee that CUHK has been recognized to ‘provide high quality student learning experience that reflects its mission and role statement, underpinned by good quality assurance systems’.
