The 1st International Symposium on Humour Pedagogical Approaches

The 1st International Symposium on Humour Pedagogical Approaches is held on 24 May at the Esther Lee Building, CUHK. Dr. Alex Chun Koon (School of Life Sciences, CUHK) and Dr. Rita Gill Singh (Language Centre, HKBU) co-chaired the symposium. This is a large project with approximately 100 participants from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, the City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Baptist University, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and the University of Hong Kong. This symposium allows participants to attend via Zoom or have a face-to-face meeting.

The theme of this symposium is "Enhancing Teaching and Learning with Humour," and a total of 11 experts gave their insights into humor pedagogy. They completely shared and exchanged their opinions on this topic.

Finally, they reached an agreement that the power of humor as a pedagogical tool can potentially leverage students’ motivation and engagement, promote student-teacher rapport, relieve academic stress, and even enhance student performance if used appropriately.
